It is one of the newest and least characterised research compounds, with data from mice and cultured cells, including human muscle cells, but none from people. This page lists every brand of SLU-PP-332 stocked at Free Muscle, compared on strength per capsule, capsules per pack and whether a batch certificate is available. Sold for laboratory research to adults only.

What is SLU-PP-332?

The oestrogen-related receptors are three orphan nuclear receptors, ERR alpha, ERR beta and ERR gamma. Despite the name they do not bind oestrogen. They regulate the expression of genes for mitochondrial biogenesis, fatty acid oxidation and oxidative metabolism, and their activity rises in skeletal muscle in response to endurance exercise. SLU-PP-332 was developed at Saint Louis University, which is where the SLU prefix comes from, as a pan-agonist that switches on all three receptors. It was designed as a tool compound to test whether pharmacological activation of ERRs could reproduce part of the adaptive response to aerobic training.

The first pharmacology paper appeared in 2023, so the entire literature is only a few years old and comes largely from the discovering group and its collaborators. Follow-up work has explored the compound in mouse models of obesity and metabolic syndrome, heart failure and kidney ageing, and a successor compound, SLU-PP-915, has since been described. SLU-PP-332 has never entered a clinical trial. There is no human pharmacokinetic, safety or efficacy data of any kind, and it is not approved as a medicine anywhere in the world. Anyone claiming a human result for this compound is not citing published evidence.

Chemically it is an acylhydrazone. Where a listing does not state a strength, treat the pack as unquantified until you have seen the certificate. Then check who tested the batch, the method and whether the batch number matches the pack. Check the units too: certificates may report milligrams where labels use micrograms (1 mg is 1,000 mcg). Mice given the compound showed more type IIa oxidative muscle fibres, a gene expression pattern in muscle resembling the acute response to aerobic exercise, and greater running endurance; the authors reported that ERR alpha activation was critical for the endurance effect. A 2024 follow-up in diet-induced obese and genetically obese (ob/ob) mice reported increased energy expenditure and fatty acid oxidation, less fat mass accumulation and improved insulin sensitivity. Authors of both papers declared shareholdings in a company developing ERR-based therapeutics.

In a 2026 paper the same group described a chemically distinct successor, SLU-PP-915, and stated plainly that SLU-PP-332 improves aerobic performance in mice but lacks oral bioavailability; the newer molecule was characterised because it is active by mouth. In that paper SLU-PP-332 was given by intraperitoneal injection, and it too carries a declared conflict of interest: the senior author is named as inventor on the university's intellectual property covering SLU-PP-915 and holds shares in companies developing ERR agonists. There is no human data of any kind, no human pharmacokinetic study, and no safety study in people. It is one of the newest compounds in this market and one of the least characterised. The conjugated naphthalene system absorbs ultraviolet light, and compounds with this kind of carbon-nitrogen double bond can switch between geometric isomers under light, so the container should stay closed and out of sunlight.

Store the container shut, in its original packaging, somewhere with a steady temperature, low humidity and no direct light.

A refrigerated container should warm up unopened first, otherwise moist air condenses on cold capsules the moment the lid comes off.

Wear gloves for any opened capsule, keep the work area free of food and drink, and store the pack where children and pets cannot reach it.

Treat spent capsules and packaging residues as chemical waste rather than household rubbish or drain waste.

Glossary

Oestrogen-related receptors (ERR): three nuclear receptors, alpha, beta and gamma, that control genes for energy metabolism; they do not bind oestrogen.

Orphan nuclear receptor: a receptor whose endogenous activating ligand was unknown when it was discovered.

Pan-agonist: a compound that activates every member of a receptor family rather than one subtype.

Exercise mimetic: a research label for a compound that reproduces part of the molecular response to exercise in cells or animals; it is not a finding in people.

Oral bioavailability: the fraction of a swallowed dose that reaches the circulation unchanged.

Acyl hydrazone: the chemical group linking the two halves of SLU-PP-332, open to hydrolysis in water.

PPAR-delta: the nuclear receptor targeted by cardarine, involved in fatty acid handling in muscle.

S9 fraction: a liver preparation containing the enzymes that metabolise foreign compounds, used to predict metabolites.

LC-HRMS: liquid chromatography with high-resolution mass spectrometry, which measures ion masses precisely enough to propose formulas.

About BioLab Metabolic Boost 100 mcg

Metabolic Boost is the name BioLab gives its SLU-PP-332 capsules, and the name identifies the product rather than describing what the compound does. These are orphan nuclear receptors, unrelated to the oestrogen receptor despite the name, that regulate mitochondrial biogenesis and oxidative metabolism in muscle and heart. It was characterised as an ERR agonist by Burris, Walker and colleagues at Saint Louis University in work first reported in 2023, and it is behind the exercise-in-a-pill headlines of the last few years.

In the 2023 ACS Chemical Biology paper, the compound raised mitochondrial function in a muscle cell line, and mice given it showed more type IIa oxidative muscle fibres, an ERR alpha-specific gene programme resembling the acute response to aerobic exercise, and greater treadmill endurance; the authors reported that ERR alpha activation was critical to the endurance effect (Billon et al., 2023). Three of the authors declared shareholdings in a company developing ERR-based therapeutics. A 2024 follow-up in diet-induced obese and ob/ob mice reported higher energy expenditure and fatty acid oxidation, less fat mass accumulation and improved insulin sensitivity (Billon et al., 2024). There is no human data of any kind, no human pharmacokinetic study, and no safety study in people. It is one of the newest compounds in this market and one of the least characterised. Nothing above is a claim about this product.

Chemically it is a small molecule, not a peptide. PubChem (CID 5338394) lists it under CAS number 303760-60-3 with the formula C18H14N2O2 and a molecular weight of 290.3. Its systematic name, 4-hydroxy-N-[(E)-naphthalen-2-ylmethylideneamino]benzamide, describes a naphthalene ring joined to a 4-hydroxybenzoyl group through an acylhydrazone link. On the first, the position is short. SLU-PP-332 is not a licensed medicine in the UK and has not been assessed by the MHRA. It is not an authorised food supplement, and it is not a controlled drug. That leaves one lawful basis for a UK shop, which is sale to adults for laboratory research, with no suggestion that anyone should swallow it. It is not for human consumption. In sport, SLU-PP-332 is not named on the WADA Prohibited List but, as a substance with no current approval for human therapeutic use, it falls under section S0 (non-approved substances) and is prohibited at all times. Anyone subject to anti-doping rules should consult the current list.

On the second question, the compound's youth is the problem. It entered the pharmacology literature in 2023, reference standards are scarce, and no pharmacopoeia monograph exists, so a label on its own proves little. A listing worth trusting gives the reader enough to check it independently. A capsule holds a weighed powder fill, and at 200 mcg the active ingredient must be spread through a much larger mass of filler; uneven blending is the main risk, and only a content assay on the batch can show whether it happened. A liquid is measured by volume and depends on the compound staying dissolved and intact in its solvent. Loose powder puts all the weighing on the researcher. None of these differences is a claim about effect.

SLU-PP-332 compared with Cardarine (GW501516)

The comparison most searched alongside SLU-PP-332 is with other so-called exercise mimetics, and the one stocked here is Cardarine (GW501516). Both are small molecules that act on nuclear receptors controlling oxidative metabolism in muscle, and both became known through mouse treadmill experiments. There the resemblance largely ends.

Cardarine is an agonist of PPAR delta, a different receptor from the ERR family. In a 2008 Cell study, a PPAR delta agonist combined with training increased oxidative muscle fibres and running endurance in mice, while an AMPK activator, AICAR, raised endurance in sedentary mice after four weeks (Narkar et al., 2008). That paper made "exercise mimetic" a research term, and SLU-PP-332 was later studied as a route to a similar gene programme through ERR instead. Development history also separates them. GW501516 was a pharmaceutical drug candidate that reached early human studies before development stopped after cancers were found in long-term rodent studies, a history covered in our article on what happened in Cardarine's development. Anti-doping laboratories have already begun preparing for it. A doping-control group at the German Sport University Cologne characterised SLU-PP-332 and SLU-PP-915 by liquid chromatography with high-resolution tandem mass spectrometry and incubated both with human liver preparations; for SLU-PP-332 they identified nine metabolites, six Phase I products and three Phase II conjugates, and described the work as a basis for uncovering misuse (Möller et al., 2026).

That study was carried out in vitro. No excretion study in people has been published, so there is no established detection window for SLU-PP-332 in urine or blood, and any figure quoted for how long it remains detectable is unsupported. The accurate summary is that it is detectable in principle, that laboratories have the target metabolites to look for, and that the window has not been established. Anyone bound by an anti-doping code should treat it as prohibited and check the current list, which is updated every year.

Storage, stability and handling

Neither BioLab nor anyone else has published stability data for SLU-PP-332 capsules, so storage advice rests on the structure of the molecule and on laboratory practice. The acylhydrazone link at the centre of SLU-PP-332 is the part chemists watch: hydrazone bonds can be cleaved by water under acidic conditions, and the carbon-nitrogen double bond can switch between E and Z forms when exposed to light. Heat speeds both processes. In sport, SLU-PP-332 is prohibited at all times: as a substance with no current approval for human therapeutic use it is caught by section S0 (non-approved substances) of the WADA Prohibited List, whether or not the list names it.

Questions worth putting to any UK seller

Whose product is it? A named brand can be held to its label. The literature answers part of that question directly. None of the published animal studies tested a capsule. In a 2026 paper introducing a successor molecule, SLU-PP-915, the same research group stated that SLU-PP-332 improves aerobic performance in mice but lacks oral bioavailability, and presented oral activity as the reason for developing the new compound (Billon et al., 2026). The authors disclose that one of them is an inventor on the university's rights and holds shares in companies developing ERR agonists. No study has measured SLU-PP-332 exposure after oral intake in any species, so this page makes no claim about what a capsule does.

Because SLU-PP-332 is a small molecule, the usual explanation for poor oral uptake of peptides, digestion by stomach and gut enzymes, does not describe its problem; the abstract does not give a cause. A capsule fixes the amount at the filling stage: at 500 mcg the active is still well under a milligram per capsule, so its accuracy depends on how evenly the powder blend was mixed before filling. A liquid moves that uncertainty to the solvent and the measuring device, and keeps the acylhydrazone link in contact with water for its whole shelf life. Only a batch content assay can show whether either format matches its label.

SLU-PP-332 compared with 5-Amino-1MQ

5-Amino-1MQ is often discussed alongside SLU-PP-332, and our research guide covers the two together, because both are small molecules studied in obese mice and both are sold under metabolic headings. Their mechanisms are unrelated. SLU-PP-332 switches on transcription factors, the ERR receptors, that drive genes for mitochondrial energy production. 5-Amino-1MQ (5-amino-1-methylquinolinium) works on an enzyme instead: it inhibits nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), which methylates nicotinamide and in doing so draws on the cell's pools of NAD+ and the methyl donor SAM.

The key 5-Amino-1MQ paper came from the University of Texas Medical Branch. Methylquinolinium inhibitors of NNMT, the chemical series to which 5-Amino-1MQ belongs, were selective against related methyltransferases, lowered the NNMT product 1-methylnicotinamide, raised intracellular NAD+ and SAM, and suppressed fat formation in cultured fat cells. In diet-induced obese mice, a potent inhibitor from the series given systemically reduced body weight, white fat mass and plasma cholesterol without a change in food intake, and the authors saw no observable adverse effects (Neelakantan et al., 2018). The weak point of SLU-PP-332 is the acylhydrazone bridge between its two ring systems. Moisture, particularly with any acidity, can split that bond back into its starting fragments, and light can convert the E arrangement of the carbon-nitrogen double bond into the Z form, a different shape. Warmth accelerates both.

In practice that means leaving the capsules in the original BioLab container with the lid closed and any desiccant in place, stored at or below room temperature in a dark cupboard rather than on a windowsill or near a radiator, kettle or shower. Keep the original label, since the batch number is the only link between the pack and any certificate. Capsules that have stuck together, softened or discoloured should be set aside and disposed of according to local rules rather than examined further. Despite the name, these orphan nuclear receptors have nothing to do with the oestrogen receptor; in muscle and heart they control how many mitochondria cells build and how much fuel they oxidise. It came from the laboratories of Thomas Burris and John Walker, working at Saint Louis University and partner institutions, and its first full characterisation was published in 2023. In 2024 the group followed with diet-induced obese and ob/ob mice, reporting higher energy expenditure and fatty acid oxidation, less fat mass and improved insulin sensitivity. Three of the authors of the first paper declared shareholdings in a company working on ERR-based therapeutics.

Two further mouse studies looked beyond muscle. In a 2024 Circulation paper, a Baylor College of Medicine team tested SLU-PP-332 and a second agonist, SLU-PP-915, in mice with heart failure induced by pressure overload; both compounds were associated with higher ejection fraction, less fibrosis and longer survival, and genetic experiments pointed to ERR gamma as the main mediator. One author declared a co-founder role in a company developing such compounds. In a 2023 study in the American Journal of Pathology, 21-month-old mice treated for eight weeks showed reversal of age-related albuminuria, podocyte loss and inflammatory markers in the kidney. A PDF without a batch number does not qualify, and we will not pass one off as a batch certificate. You can contact us with the product name and lot number to ask what is held for that batch. The document in this listing's gallery is one such report, commissioned by Thoroughbred Labs for batch 0725SLU: analysed on 31 October 2025, it requested a qualitative and quantitative analysis and prints a figure of 277.98 mcg for SLU-PP-332, with a QR code and a verification key, no purity percentage and no unit basis for the figure. Anti-doping laboratories have already published in vitro work on its detection. In a 2026 study, a Los Angeles doping-control laboratory incubated the compound with pooled human liver S9 fractions and used liquid chromatography with high-resolution mass spectrometry to identify 22 metabolites, hydroxylated and glucuronide or sulfate conjugated forms among them, several of which the authors proposed as candidate targets for doping control.
