BPC-157, also written BPC157 and known as Body Protection Compound 157 or pentadecapeptide BPC 157, is a synthetic fifteen-amino-acid peptide whose sequence is taken from a protein found in human gastric juice. It is studied in animal models of tendon, muscle, gut and vascular injury and has no approved medical use anywhere. This page lists every brand of BPC-157 stocked at Free Muscle and compares them on strength per capsule, capsules per pack and batch testing so you can judge the listings on the same terms.
What is BPC-157?
BPC-157 is a stable gastric pentadecapeptide, a fragment of the larger body protection compound isolated from gastric juice by a Zagreb research group in the early 1990s. Most of the published work comes from that group and its collaborators. The proposed mechanisms in animal studies involve the nitric oxide system, growth factor receptor signalling (including VEGFR2 and the FAK-paxillin pathway) and the formation of new blood vessels, but no single receptor for BPC-157 has been identified and the mechanism is not settled.
It has never been developed through a full clinical programme. There are no completed, controlled human trials establishing benefit or safety: the human data come from three small pilot studies without control groups, with about 30 participants between them, and no phase II trial has been completed (McGuire 2025; Mateescu 2026). BPC-157 is not an approved medicine in the UK, the EU or the United States. Since 2022 it has been listed by the World Anti-Doping Agency under S0, non-approved substances, so it is prohibited in sport at all times.
PubChem records BPC-157 under CID 9941957 and CAS number 137525-51-0. Its fifteen residues read GEPPPGKPADDAGLV in one-letter code, the molecular formula is C62H98N16O22 and the molecular weight of the free peptide is 1419.5 g/mol. Older papers also use the development codes PL 14736 and PLD-116.
What the published research reports
A 2003 study in rats reported that BPC-157 accelerated healing of a surgically transected Achilles tendon, with better functional recovery and tissue scores than saline-treated controls; in cultured tendon cells the peptide had no growth effect of its own but reversed the growth inhibition caused by the aldehyde 4-hydroxynonenal (Staresinic 2003). A 2011 in vitro study using rat Achilles tendon explants reported increased tendon fibroblast outgrowth, survival under oxidative stress and cell migration, with the FAK-paxillin pathway implicated (Chang 2011). A 2016 review by the originating group summarised animal work across gut, brain and vascular injury models (Sikiric 2016). The limitation shared by all of this is that it is animal or cell work, largely from one research network, at doses and routes that do not translate to any product.
The human literature is thin: three pilot studies, each run at a single clinic and none with a control group.
| Study | Design | Participants | Reported | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lee 2021 | Retrospective chart review and telephone survey after knee injections | 17 charted, 16 reached; 12 had received BPC-157 alone | 11 of those 12 said their knee pain had improved considerably | No control group, no blinding, no validated outcome measures |
| Lee 2024 | Injections around the inflamed area of the bladder during one cystoscopy | 12 women with interstitial cystitis unresponsive to an approved drug | All 12 reported improvement on a global response questionnaire; no adverse events were reported | No control group or blinding; outcome rated by the patients |
| Lee and Burgess 2025 | Intravenous infusions on two consecutive days | 2 adults who had received the peptide before | No change in the heart, liver, kidney, thyroid or blood glucose markers tested; neither reported an adverse effect | Two people cannot characterise risk |
Toxicity studies in mice, rats, rabbits and dogs found no serious toxicity; dogs at the highest level tested showed a fall in creatinine that resolved two weeks after the peptide was stopped, local irritation was mild, and no genetic or embryo-fetal toxicity was seen (Xu 2020). A 2025 systematic review of 36 studies, 35 of them preclinical, found no clinical safety data and noted possible risks from unregulated manufacture and contamination (Vasireddi 2025). None of the above is a claim about any product on this page.

Brands of BPC-157 we stock
- BioLab BPC-157 HCl 200 mcg, 60 capsules. BioLab publishes a per-capsule strength of 200 micrograms (0.2mg), which gives 12mg in the pack. A manufacturer COA is shown where BioLab supplies one for the batch we hold.
- Thoroughbred Labs BPC-157 Peptide Capsules. 60 capsules. Thoroughbred Labs states 300 mcg (0.3 mg) of BPC-157 arginate per capsule, which is 18 mg per pack. COA shown where the manufacturer supplies one for the batch held.
- Yakka Strength BPC-157 Peptide Capsules. 60 capsules. Yakka Strength states 250 mcg (0.25 mg) per capsule, which is 15 mg per pack. COA shown where the manufacturer supplies one for the batch held.
There is currently no Free Muscle-brand BPC-157. Our own peptide in this family is sold under the designation BPC-150, a listing sold as a variant of BPC-157 that is not the literature peptide described above and has no published research of its own.
How to compare them
Multiply strength per capsule by capsules per pack to get total milligrams, then divide the price by that figure to get cost per milligram. On this page that calculation is possible for all three listings, since BioLab states 200 mcg, Yakka Strength 250 mcg and Thoroughbred Labs 300 mcg per capsule. Whichever you compare, ask for the batch certificate before you decide, and check that the batch number on it matches the pack.
Check the units as well: 1,000 micrograms (mcg or µg) make 1 milligram, so a 200 mcg capsule holds 0.2 mg and a label reading 1000mcg means 1 mg, not 1,000 mg. The BioLab listing is a hydrochloride (HCl) salt, and a salt such as hydrochloride or acetate includes the mass of its counter-ion, so check on the certificate whether a stated amount is peptide content or salt. Our UK supplier checklist covers the other documents worth asking for.
Batch testing and certificates of analysis
A certificate of analysis (COA) is the laboratory's report on a single manufactured batch, giving the identity and purity found (usually by HPLC and mass spectrometry), the batch number, the test date and the laboratory's name. For BPC-157 the identity result should match the fifteen-residue sequence and a molecular weight close to 1419.5 g/mol for the free peptide; a different peptide, or a truncated by-product of synthesis, gives a different mass.
For the brands on this page (BioLab, Thoroughbred Labs and Yakka Strength) a COA is shown only where the manufacturer has supplied one for the specific batch we hold, and the field is left blank otherwise rather than implying a test that does not exist. Every Free Muscle-brand batch is assayed by Janoshik Analytical, an independent laboratory, and we email its certificate on request when given the batch number from the label.
A generic PDF with no batch number, date or named laboratory is not a batch certificate. Match the batch number on the certificate to the one on your pack; our lab tests page explains what else to look for.
Where to buy BPC-157 in the UK: how to check a supplier
Whichever shop you buy BPC-157 from, check these five points before you order:
- A batch number and a certificate for that batch. The pack should carry a batch number, and the seller should be able to show a certificate of analysis for that same batch from a named laboratory, with the test date. For BioLab, Thoroughbred Labs and Yakka Strength, a certificate is shown where the brand supplies one for the batch we hold.
- The strength per capsule and the capsule count. With both figures you can work out the total milligrams in the pack and the price per milligram; the comparison table above does this for every listing here that states both. If a listing does not state one of them, ask the seller before you order.
- Research-use labelling and an age check. A research compound should be sold for laboratory research use only, not for human consumption, to adults aged 18 or over, with no dosing or usage advice. That is how every listing here is sold.
- Prices in pounds sterling and tracked UK dispatch. UK delivery from us is free and tracked on every order, with no minimum spend, and usually arrives 2-3 working days after dispatch; orders placed before 2pm Monday to Friday are processed the same working day.
- A clear returns policy. Unopened items can be returned to us within 30 days.

Legal status in the UK
BPC-157 is not a licensed medicine in the UK and has no marketing authorisation from the MHRA. It is not an authorised food supplement or novel food, and it may not be sold for human consumption. It is supplied here for laboratory research to adults aged 18 and over. It is not a controlled drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act. In sport it is prohibited at all times under WADA class S0 (non-approved substances), so any tested athlete should treat it as a doping risk. For the wider picture on how research compounds sit within UK law, see our SARMs versus peptides guide.
| Jurisdiction or body | Position of BPC-157 (checked October 2026) |
|---|---|
| United Kingdom | Not a controlled drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. No MHRA marketing authorisation; regulation 46 of the Human Medicines Regulations 2012 bars the sale or supply of an unauthorised medicinal product, so it may be sold neither as a medicine nor for human consumption. |
| European Union | Not an approved medicine. |
| United States | Not approved by the FDA. The FDA's page of compounding substances that may present significant safety risks (content current as of 22 April 2026) lists BPC-157 among nominations withdrawn by their nominators, and records concerns about immune reactions with some routes, peptide impurities and characterisation, and little or no safety information. |
| Sport (WADA) | Named in class S0, non-approved substances, on the 2026 Prohibited List (in force from 1 January 2026) and prohibited at all times. S0 substances are Specified Substances, which affects sanctions, not whether use is permitted. |
Storage and handling
Keep the container sealed, in a cool, dry place away from direct light, and return it there each time the container has been opened. Do not decant into unlabelled containers. Keep out of the reach of children and animals. Handle in line with ordinary laboratory good practice, with gloves and a clean work surface, and dispose of unwanted material through an appropriate waste route rather than down the sink.

Frequently asked questions
Is BPC-157 legal in the UK?
BPC-157 is not on the UK's list of controlled drugs. It is also unlicensed as a medicine and unauthorised as a food supplement, and for that reason it may not be sold for human consumption. We supply it for laboratory research and only to customers aged 18 and over. WADA bans it at all times under class S0, non-approved substances.
Is BPC-157 available on the NHS?
No. BPC-157 is not in any licensed medicine anywhere, and no phase II trial of it has been completed, so it has no approved use and is not part of NHS care. Questions about a health condition belong with a GP or another qualified clinician. Free Muscle does not sell a BPC-157 of its own; the listings on this page are other manufacturers' products, sold for laboratory research to adults aged 18 and over.
Is BPC-157 a peptide or a SARM?
BPC-157 is a peptide, a chain of fifteen amino acids derived from a protein found in gastric juice. It is not a SARM. SARMs are small non-peptide molecules that bind the androgen receptor, whereas no specific receptor for BPC-157 has been identified. The two are often sold side by side but they are unrelated chemically and pharmacologically.
What is the difference between BPC-157 and BPC-150?
BPC-157 is the peptide studied in the published literature. BPC-150 is a name Free Muscle uses for one of its own products, sold as a variant of BPC-157; it is not the peptide from the literature, and nothing has been published under that name. The BPC-157 findings on this page should therefore not be read across to BPC-150, and the BPC-150 collection covers that product separately.
Has BPC-157 been tested in humans?
Only in three small pilot studies, none with a control group and about 30 people in total: a 2021 review of knee-injection patients at one clinic, a 2024 study of 12 women with interstitial cystitis treated at a private clinic, and a 2025 study in which two adults received intravenous infusions. No phase II trial has been completed, and reviewers in 2025 and 2026 described the peptide as investigational, with rigorous human trials still lacking. Almost everything else published comes from rodent and cell studies.
What side effects or safety findings have been reported for BPC-157?
The record is too thin to establish a safety profile. Animal toxicity studies in four species found no serious toxicity, with a reversible fall in creatinine in dogs at the highest level tested and mild local irritation. The small human pilots reported no adverse events, but they had no control groups and too few people to reveal uncommon effects, and a 2025 systematic review could find no clinical safety data at all. The US FDA has recorded concerns about immune reactions, peptide impurities and limited safety information.
BPC-157 capsules or injection: which route did the research use?
Mostly injection. In the majority of rodent studies the peptide was injected into the abdominal cavity, and some also gave it in drinking water or as a cream, as in a 2010 rat ligament study. The first formal pharmacokinetic study, published in 2022, used intravenous and intramuscular injection in rats and dogs. A 2026 review noted its reported stability in gastric juice but found no permeability data and no validated formulation, and there are no human data for capsules. We make no claim that capsules match injected results.
Is BPC-157 detectable in sport drug tests?
Yes. BPC-157 is named in class S0 of the 2026 WADA Prohibited List, which is prohibited at all times, and S0 substances are Specified Substances. A 2017 anti-doping study validated a urine test sensitive down to 0.1 ng/mL and found that also targeting a stable breakdown product, not just the intact peptide, made the test more specific. How long it remains detectable in people has not been published, so a tested athlete should treat it as both prohibited and detectable.
How do I verify the batch of BPC-157 I receive?
None of the BPC-157 on this page is Free Muscle brand, so there is no Janoshik certificate to request for it. For BioLab, Thoroughbred Labs and Yakka Strength, look on the product page: a manufacturer's certificate of analysis appears there only when the brand has supplied one for the batch we currently hold, and the field is left blank otherwise. When a certificate is shown, confirm the batch number on it matches the number printed on your pack.
Which BPC-157 strength should I choose?
We do not advise on strength or selection. These products are sold for laboratory research only and nothing on this page is guidance on use. The comparison we offer is factual: published strength per capsule, capsules per pack and the batch documentation each brand provides.
